Overview
When you upload an episode you'll see a section called Episode & Season Numbering.
In most cases, you won’t need to do anything, as these numbers are automatically generated.
What is Episode and Season Numbering?
Episode numbering simplifies titles. Instead of naming an episode “Episode 42: The Meaning of Life,” simply add the title, e.g. "The Meaning of Life." The episode number will be filled in automatically.
If your podcast has seasons, a season tag can be added.
Why Use Episode and Season Numbering?
Episode and season numbering makes it easier for podcast apps to order your podcast and improves search efficiency. It also reduces errors from manual formatting.
Compatibility with Apps and Platforms
Handling Apps That Don’t Support Episode Numbers
We provide a title that includes the episode number for apps that don’t support the separate episode number.
For example, Episode 42 "The Meaning of Life” is displayed as “42. The Meaning of Life”.
Importing Podcasts with Episode Numbers in Titles
If you’re importing a podcast with existing episode numbers, don’t worry. Our auto numbering tool will strip the episode number from the title and assign it properly, leaving a clean title like "The Meaning of Life".
When you import your podcast via RSS you'll see a prompt on your Dashboard to help you, or you can check out our auto numbering tool.
Customizing Episode Number Visibility
By default, we follow Apple Podcasts' recommendations.
However, you can choose to either always show or never show episode numbers in titles via the "Embed episode numbers in titles" setting in your dashboard.
